What Makes Knockaround Guys Lawrence Bender’s Most Underrated Film?

On its surface, Knockaround Guys may not have the appearance of a film that should be the best work of someone who has the resume of Hollywood producer Lawrence Bender. However, sometimes appearances can be deceiving and the fact of the matter is that despite producing movies like Pulp Fiction and Good Will Hunting, Knockaround Guys is my favorite Lawrence Bender film.

Knockaround Guys is the story of the son of a mob boss named Matty and his efforts to gain his father’s approval and earn a place at the top of the hierarchy of the family business. Matty gets his chance when someone begins stealing money from his father and his father gives him an assignment to retrieve a bag of money to ensure that it does not fall into the wrong hands. Matty enlists the help of his friend Johnny to fly his plane to pick up the bag of money. However, on his way back with the money, Johnny stops in Montana to refuel his plane and while there, the money is stolen. Matty and his friends Chris and Taylor head up to Montana and together with Johnny attempt to retrieve the bag of money before Matty’s father finds out.

Knockaround Guys may sound like your standard fish out of water mafia movie, and that is because in many ways, it is. However, what sets this film apart and makes it my favorite Lawrence Bender movie to date is the performances, particularly those of Barry Pepper (Matty) and Vin Diesel (Taylor), and the chemistry of the cast in general. Chemistry is sorely underrated when it comes to critiquing films and as a result, movies like Knockaround Guys, which have superior chemistry but may be lacking in other areas, are often underrated as well.

Lawrence Bender graduated from The University of Maine with a degree in Civil Engineering, which is a far cry from where the Bronx native’s life would eventually take him. After deciding to pursue a career as a producer, Bender came out of the gates on fire. His early films include Reservoir Dogs, Good Will Hunting and Pulp Fiction, with the latter two winning Academy Awards. Lawrence Bender has also produced other groundbreaking films, including Jackie Brown, Kill Bill: Vol. 1, Kill Bill: Vol. 2 and An Inconvenient Truth.

Stream Energy has been featured on for their excellent philanthropy efforts following Hurricane Harvey. The hurricane devastated homes and ravaged neighborhoods, but Stream Cares (the philanthropic branch of Stream) began the relief effort immediately. The move eased the burden on their customers and on emergency responders. Corporate philanthropy is a tenet which is branded into the company’s core beliefs. The company utilizes their many resources to give back to the community in more ways than just by donating money. They know that being generous with their community is an important part of corporate ongoings.

Many corporations are catching on to the new way of doing business by giving back to their communities. Stream Energy has been leading the pack of these new corporations by forming their philanthropy and charity branch. They have engaged in multiple acts of charity since the hurricane that devastated Dallas. They have built and fostered long-term relationships with Habitat for Humanity, Red Cross, and other charitable foundations. They believe in the ability of a community to change the world and recognize the importance of having an impact. Stream Energy is a perfect example of a philanthropic corporation.

Tony Petrello And Family Are Personally Affected And Searching For A Cure While Focusing On Hosting Celebrity Events At Their Home

Recently when Tommy Tune returned to Houston, Texas, his hometown, he was welcomed back by Nabors CEO, Tony Petrello. Tony and his wife Cynthia welcomed Tommy into their home and hosted a special event which brought 50 friends in as well as many board members of the Miller Outdoor Theatre. The members who attended were on the advisory board for the Shadyside estate.

Tommy Tune had attended and graduated from the Lamar High and before heading off to New York City to become a Broadway star, Tommy had turned his attention to Patsy Swayze to teach him his footwork. Tommy was in Houston to perform at the Miller Outdoor Theatre where he was then performing in front of more than 5,000 of some of his biggest fans from his hometown.

Before Tony was even involved in Nabors as the CEO, he and his wife were known for throwing such lavish gatherings. Tony is a contributor to many different philanthropic businesses and resources. When the birth of their child came early, leaving them with a premature baby, they decided to use some of their own resources to make a difference in the scientific community. Since this time, Tony Petrello and wife have donated over $5 million dollars while still pledging to donate another $2 million for new research.

When their daughter Carena was born, she was born so early that she developed a very common problem that many premature infants have, periventricular leukomalacia. This condition causes infants to have a lack of blood flow to the brain which carries the oxygen they need, then leading to a number of health problems like cerebral palsy. It also leads to many other developmental concerns. Because their daughter has this disability, they are always looking for new ways to help the scientific community to find a way to treat and cure many medical problems.

Anthony Petrello had grown up struggling and therefore was committed to ensuring that when he was grown, he would have financial security behind him. That is why he worked so hard to earn good grades and attended Harvard Law School. What started out as an interest in Math then led over to an interest in human sciences.

Recently, when Hurricane Harvey touched down and affected Houston, Tony Petrello had a variety of employees who were affected by the hurricane. Because they were affected, Tony was determined about helping them out. Giving back to the community is very important for the members of Nabors and therefore when the hurricane was over, they knew they had to do something to help. The employees of Nabors were offered to receive paid time off if they were willing to go off and help those in Houston affected by the hurricane. Close to a $175,000 was raised for the community and Tony Petrello offered to match the money made which then allowed for the community to have over $300,000 to help them rebuild their lives.

The Giving Heart of the DeVos Family

A recent article referred to the Dick DeVos contribution to the political arena as a pocket change. They made this analogy using the contributions that they have given for charitable causes. These donations are more than $ 139 million since they began their donation. The pair made a donation of $11.6 million in the year 2015 alone. These donations mean that the Dick DeVos family is the 24th most generous givers in the United States. The Forbes magazine recently announced that the family had donated a quarter of their wealth in the last 50 years. The donations are approximated at $1. 33 billion while the family wealth stands at $5.2 billion.

In all these donations, education is at the forefront. They also support groups that support education reforms. A 26 percent of their donations is estimated to go the education sector. The two say that they focused on education as they felt that the current system was not working well with the American Dream. The two acknowledge that there are teachers who have been doing well to support the system but believe that more can be done by improving the current system. Some of the beneficiaries of their donations include the Compass College of Cinematic Arts that is found in Grand Rapids, the Ferris State University, Northwood University as well as West Michigan Aviation Academy and Detroit Charter School Company New Urban Learning. The Rehoboth Christian School is also a beneficiary of their donations.

While making these donations, the pair say that they are aimed at helping people directly and should not be confused with political donations. They have even received the support of their children who usually urge them to contribute more. During the interview, Dick DeVos said that there was a time when his children told him that a contribution he was making was not enough to make a change. The family has also focused on fostering leadership development within the Chicago are. For this reason, they are known to support the Chicago-area megachurch. The participation of their children in the donations is something intentional as they often discuss the issue.
